BYU Concessions Fund Raiser

Choir students and parents,

The Chamber and A Cappella choirs have exciting tours planned for next Spring. If all goes according to plan Chamber is going to New York City and A Cappella is going to Washington D.C. These will both be amazing experiences for the kids, chaperones and leaders.

Ms. Johnson (Mama) has shared with both choirs and their parents the details of these tours and the anticipated costs. We recognize that they are expensive and so have set up several fund raisers to help minimize the impact on your families.

The BYU Concessions fund raiser is a great opportunity to earn money, have fun and be with the choir. LPHS choirs is manning the concession stand S109, a large stand in the Southeast corner of the football stadium. We will be there for each home game. We will also help out at about four basketball games in the Marriott Center.

We encourage each student and willing parent to help out. We've made a google doc sign up sheet online. If you haven't already, go out and sign up for a slot.

Click here to access the google doc.

Everyone who wishes to participate must go through either the online training or be taught in class. Once you're trained go sign up. If the slots are full and you want to still help out you can contact Ginny Rainsdon or Michelle Ririe and they can see if there's a way we can help. We haven't posted the basketball sign ups so you should still have a chance to participate.

Please take advantage of all of our fund raisers and you will be surprised at how much it will help lower the cost.

Go Knights!

2014-15 A Cappella Tour Announced

Breaking News!!!!

The 2014-15 A Cappella Choir will be flying to Washington D.C. to tour the capital and surrounding area in mid to late April 2015. This will be an outstanding opportunity for the kids to learn more about our beautiful country, to see historic sites and to sing in an excellent venue.

We encourage you to start preparing now by participating in the fundraising events we have set up. We are starting with BYU Concessions support. The first opportunity to sign up for BYU concessions is the Fourth of July Freedom Festival. Look at your email to find out how to sign up.

Our annual yard sale will be on two Saturdays in September. Start collecting things to sell NOW. Talk to family, friends, or neighbors who might be moving, taking stuff to the D.I. or who might donate items for you to sell.

We'll also sell ad space in our concert programs. Talk to people you know who might want to advertise their company, their goods or talk about how amazing you are. Think of the possibilities. Just remember it must comply with school policies.

It's going to be another amazing choir year at Lone Peak. Get ready to make a lot of new friends, develop your singing talents and travel the nation.

To all of the very talented singers who auditioned for Chamber Singers:

To all of the very talented singers who auditioned for Chamber Singers:

This has been an impossible task! That is why it has taken so long!! You are all so talented and so qualified in so many ways. I don’t know when I have had as difficult a time in choosing singers for Chamber as I had this year. The level of talent is extraordinary and everyone performed exceptionally well. Please know that there are many elements that must be considered when placing singers in a small choir like Chamber. It is vital to consider each voice in terms of its size, weight, color, and timbre in order to ensure a good blend. Many who tried out are fabulous soloists and do well in a large choir where you can “let it out”. From the
standpoint of a singer and voice teacher, I know how frustrating it can be (as well as damaging to a voice) to pull it back to fit into a small ensemble. At the same time, some with smaller, lighter voices can be either “eaten alive” by the bigger voices or can be damaged by trying to “be” a bigger voice. (A whale can beat a minnow any time; but even if the minnow tries to imitate a whale, it will still be “eaten alive” because it is really still a minnow). It is a most challenging exercise to choose a choir that will blend together and balance one another.

To those of you who were not selected for Chamber, please know of my deep love and respect for you. In my eyes you are all winners, fabulous singers, and extraordinary people. I did not hear anyone that didn't impress me in every way. I appreciate your support and desire to make the choirs at Lone Peak High School second to none. Please come sing in A Cappella Choir next year. We need your talent and leadership so much. With the level of amazing talent that I’ve heard, we can do some really extraordinary and unbelievable things next year.

Thanks for being my kids. I love you.

Winter Concert Recap

It was great to hear our choirs last Wednesday at the Winter Concert. All of the choirs participated and sounded very nice. We want to thank Mrs. Styles, the student teacher in choir right now for conducting many of the songs. The kids produced such a high quality sound across a wide range of musical styles.

Thank you to all who participated, both on the stage and behind the scenes!
